Why you'll love it

Because PMS is common, but it doesn’t have to be your normal. Recent evidence points out that Vitamin B6 can improve many of the symptoms of PMS including fatigue, irritability, breast pain and tenderness as well PMS-related depression in some individuals. While the exact mechanism of what causes PMS is still largely unknown, it has been shown that the activated form of B6 is essential for the synthesis of hormones, including progesterone, as well as being involved with the creation of the key neurotransmitters GABA and Serotonin. Additionally, B6 can promote anti-inflammatory prostaglandins that assist with the healthy detoxification of estrogen.

Vitamin B6 has also been used widely since the 1940’s to help decrease nausea and vomiting associated with morning sickness in pregnancy. If this is something that resonates with you, we encourage you to speak to your health care practitioner to see if supplementing with B6 is right for you.

Alcohol can also deplete B vitamins and in turn, fertility rates, as it can lead to lower progesterone in the second half of the cycle. If you are a female of child bearing age and tend to enjoy more than a few drinks per week, you may wish to consider cutting down or supplementing with a high quality B6 supplement.

Why this formula?

Some individuals are unable to convert Vitamin B6 into its active form, pyridoxal-5-phosphate possibly due to a deficiency in another nutrient such as vitamin B2 or magnesium. We save your body that extra step by providing the activated form in a capsule so it is ready to go!

How much do I really need?

There doesn’t seem to be an obvious dose response curve for B6 when it comes to managing the symptoms of PMS which really just means that more isn’t necessarily better. Some clinicians may recommend higher doses but we suggest starting with the lowest effective dose of 1 capsule once daily.  It’s important to note that taking the recommended dosages of Vitamin B6 is healthy for the body, however, long term use of very high doses may lead to side effects such as nerve damage.
