Why you'll love it
It’s Ubiquitous!
Yes, the name for Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinol) comes from this term meaning it’s everywhere at once. Literally, CoQ10 is found in every single cell in the human body, which tells us it might just be pretty important!
Coenzyme Q10 Benefits
This supercharged antioxidant is very important for heart health, especially in those who have suffered from a heart attack or are on statin therapy for cholesterol management. Some studies even show an improvement in vitality, physical performance and quality of life in older adults who regularly supplement with CoQ10.
Many studies looking at CoQ10 as a natural supplement for the treatment of fibromyalgia in women and have found that pain, fatigue and sleep disturbances have all been improved. Additionally, sufferers of migraine headaches have seen a remarkable reduction in the frequency and the number of days with headache related nausea of up to 50% by when taking Coenzyme Q10 which has been replicated in a number of studies.
Sources of CoQ10
The body manufactures a significant amount of CoQ10 when we are young, but this production declines with age. Many people middle-aged and older have CoQ10 deficiency, which can be associated with an increased risk for several age-related diseases.
It is difficult to obtain enough CoQ10 simply from our diet because it is destroyed by heat when cooking food. Our Coenzyme Q10 supplement can fill the gaps!
Why this formula?
Supplements are usually available in two forms;
- Ubiquinone: the oxidized form
- Ubiquinol: the reduced form
Ubiquinol is the form naturally found in our bodies, so there’s no surprise that it’s the more absorbable form when it comes to supplements. However, the oxidized form is readily converted in the body to the reduced form, so there’s still a lot of debate as to which formula is the best to supplement with.
Most studies have been done using the “tried and true” ubiquinone as ubiquinol was only available after 2006. At present, current studies point to ubiquinone being effective for most individuals looking to maintain good health, while ubiquinol may be more effective for those who are older and looking to use CoQ10 therapeutically to treat or reverse a disease.
Usually dosage form isn’t overly critical when it comes to the delivery of vitamins and supplements, however in the case of CoQ10, various studies have shown that softgels provide greater absorption rates compared to solid forms (like tablets). CoQ10 is also naturally fat soluble which is why we have selected a soft gel capsule with an oil base to ensure maximal absorption.
How much do I really need?
There’s no official recommended daily dose of CoQ10, and the supplemental dose depends on the condition you are targeting.
Otherwise healthy individuals with a family history of heart disease or increased risk of cardiovascular disease could benefit from a dose of 100mg daily.
Migraine sufferers have seen benefit at doses of 100mg three times a day and individuals on statin therapy should take 100mg daily.
Because Coenzyme Q10 is a fat soluble molecule, it’s recommended to take it with a fat containing meal. If taking this once a day only, it’s recommended to take at night for full effect.
