Why you'll love it
Because your liver is tired of taking one for the team. Your liver is one of the hardest working and most important organs in your body. It’s responsible for filtering everything your body is exposed to from food, to drugs, to alcohol, and even environmental pollution. Isn’t it time we showed our liver a little love?
Milk thistle is a plant that has been used for thousands of years in the practice of herbal medicine and Ayurveda for its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anit-viral and even anti-parasitic action. These days, we see it used more as a hangover cure and to help detox the liver. If you are unfortunate enough to have accidentally consumed a death cap mushroom, fear not – Milk thistle is such a good detoxifier that it can reverse the poisonous effects of this lethal fungi (but please don’t test out this theory!)
There’s extensive research on Milk Thistle’s ability to protect the liver, especially from one of its most frequent attackers – alcohol. If you are a woman who regularly consume more than two drinks a day or 10 per week or a male who has three drinks a day or 15 per week, or are alcohol dependent, Milk Thistle should be part of your nutrition plan along with other supplements that your primary care provider may recommend.
Not only does Milk Thistle act as protector of the liver improving detoxification and digestion, it’s also a powerful antioxidant that works towards protecting the body from free radical damage. In clinical trials, it has been proven to reduce drug and alcohol related liver damage, cirrhosis, fibrosis and environmental toxins.
Why this formula?
How much do I really need?
If you are looking to use Milk Thistle as a supportive detoxification supplement from prolonged use of alcohol, acetaminophen, prescription medications, pollution or every day contaminant exposure, a standard dose of 1 capsule twice daily should do the trick, however, if you currently have significant liver involvement or advanced liver disease, we recommend you consult with your primary care provider as the dose provided here may not be sufficient to meet your needs.
Beneficial effects may take up to three weeks, so it’s important to take this supplement regularly and not just after a long weekend of heavy drinking.
